Teeth Whitening in Calabasas

What Is Professional Teeth Whitening?

While many teeth whitening options exist in stores, they lack the power to lift stains like a professional treatment. At TruGlo Calabasas, Dr. Rhonda Kalasho uses a special peroxide gel designed to minimize any increase in tooth sensitivity. This gel, combined with our use of a laser system, can lift even stubborn stains from discolored teeth. Included in the gel are anti-sensitivity granules that prevent the peroxide from being absorbed by your teeth. Instead, the peroxide targets only the staining elements for a whiter smile without your teeth becoming too sensitive afterward.

We also offer take-home kits that contain the same high-grade materials. The difference is that you can apply the treatment from the comfort of your own home. Both options have advantages, so the best way to find your solution is to come in for a consultation visit.

During your visit, we can examine your teeth and discuss what you would like your smile to look like. Based on the exam and your goals, we can recommend the appropriate cosmetic option.

Cleaning and Preparation:

If your teeth have any cavities or active decay, they may need to be treated before applying the whitening treatment. We also conduct a full professional teeth cleaning before whitening to ensure your teeth are in good shape.

Whitening Your Teeth:

Once your teeth are clean and ready, you can come in for your whitening visit. Or, for take-home care, you can pick up your whitening kit.

What Is a Teeth Whitening Treatment Like?

Dr. Kalasho specializes in a technique called Zoom whitening. This involves first applying the whitening formula to the teeth before using a laser system to speed up the whitening process. She also uses desensitizing agents to prevent tooth sensitivity both during and after treatment. Patients can expect a pain-free teeth whitening experience from start to finish. The entire treatment process tends to take about 1 hour, though it may vary. Once your whitening visit is complete, you will walk out of the office with significantly whiter teeth.

For take-home kits, you will receive trays made to fit your bite. At home, you can follow the instructions carefully, placing the whitening solution in the trays and then setting them over your teeth for the allotted time. This will be repeated several times over a period of several days to gradually lift stains and improve how your teeth look.

Will Teeth Whitening Work for Me?

Teeth whitening is one of the most popular cosmetic treatments offered at our dental office in Calabasas. A wide range of patients can see significant benefits from even a single treatment. However, the treatment is best for patients whose dental situation is right for the whitening process. Generally, it may be best to wait if you have significant oral health concerns such as cavities. But once these are addressed, you can move forward.

Likewise, patients with severe decay or damaged teeth may find a different option more suitable. For example, damaged teeth can be restored using veneers, inlays or onlays, and dental crowns. Due to the nature of the treatment, whitening is best for patients with otherwise healthy teeth. During your consultation, Dr. Kalasho can go over which options would best give you the smile you dream of.

How Long Will the Results Last?

Teeth whitening results can last for years. However, it is important to avoid any lifestyle factors that could cause your teeth to pick up new stains. A few things to remember that will keep your results lasting longer include:

  • Some of the biggest culprits for stained teeth are tea, coffee, and tobacco use.
  • Avoid certain foods that can easily stain your teeth, like blueberries, soy sauce, and wine.
  • Having a solid dental hygiene routine goes a long way in keeping your teeth looking great.
